Dragon Village Collection Wiki:Style Guide

From Dragon Village Collection Wiki

This guide is intended to help people keep the articles of this wiki consistent in its formatting. This guide doesn't cover all subjects, but if you encounter something that you're not sure how to format or style, try to look at other pages of a similar subject and copy what they do, or ask an administrator.

If you need clarification or want to make a suggestion, please use the Style Guide talk page.

For any editing help, see the Wikipedia's "Help:Editing" page.

Content

Spoilers

All content that is considered a spoiler should be separately sectioned, hidden as a collapsed section, and/or indicated with the {{Spoiler}} template. All content that cannot be found by normal players in-game yet is considered a spoiler, which includes but is not limited to:

  • Content that was teased by the developers on social media.
  • Content in official content such as the DVC Art Book.
  • Content that is unreleased but in the game's files.

Redirecting

A page should have a redirect to it if any of the following applies to the subject:

  • It had a name change, and the redirect is its previous name.
  • The article was previously named something else, and the redirect is the old name.
  • A name that the subject is commonly referred to as by the community.

Images should not have redirects. If an image's name needs to be changed, do not leave a redirect. Please make sure to update all the pages that used the image with the newly changed image name.

Writing

Written content of a page should be simple and concise. Content should be objective and not speculative or opinionated. The exception to this is if a tips or tricks section is applicable to the article, allowing older players to give their opinionated tips to any newer players who may be reading.

Capitalization

The names of specific subjects such as dragons, badges, items, and elements should be capitalized. Common terms do not need to be capitalized.

Spelling

Some words may have different spelling variations depending on the nationality of the person who wrote the page. There is no site-wide correct way to spell a word, so this does not need to be corrected if it occurs, however, if an article differs between spellings of the same word, it should be corrected and changed to the same spelling each time the word is used in that article.

Example: If the article was originally written in British English, then content was added to it in American English, the article's spelling should be corrected so everything is in British English on that page.

In-Game Text

In-game descriptions, dialogue, etc. should be written on the wiki exactly how it is in-game, even if it contains spelling or grammatical errors. If the in-game description for a subject such as an item or badge is unclear, a clarification can be made on that subject's page separately from the description.

Links

A subject should be linked if it is brought up on and relevant to another subject's page and would be helpful to link. All subjects should be linked normally except for dragons, which should use the {{DragonLink}} template to link them instead.

Templates

There are many templates that are used for formatting purposes and will aid you in page editing.

Notices

Notices or notice boxes should be displayed at the top of a page or section.

{{Missing Info}}

Used for pages that have missing information.

Tired Emoji.png This page is incomplete and/or is missing information. Please help us by editing the page or let us know your findings in our Discord!

For more information, see the Missing Info template page.

{{Stub}}

Used for pages that could be expanded upon.

Genius Emoji.png This page is a stub and is lacking information. Please help us by expanding the page!

For more information, see the Stub template page.

{{Delete}}

Used for pages that have been requested to be deleted.

Hit Emoji.png This page has been labelled as a candidate for deletion as requested by a user and is currently pending.
This is due to either a violation of the wiki's rules or by the author's request.

For more information, see the Delete template page.

{{Spoiler}}

Used for pages or sections that are a spoiler.

Surprised Emoji.png This page or section contains unreleased content and may be a spoiler for the game. Please proceed with caution!
There are no guarantees whether this content will be added to the game or not unless otherwise stated.

For more information, see the Spoiler template page.

{{Translation}}

Used for pages or sections that have a fan-translation. These sections should have both an in-game and translated version selectable through the use of tabber.

Confused Emoji.png This section has been fan-translated to be more digestible for readers, but as a result, it may not be 100% accurate.
To read the unmodified in-game version, select the "In-Game" tab above.

For more information, see the Translation template page.

{{Size Warning}}

Evil Emoji.png This page is very large and may load slowly or reduce device performance when editing or viewing. Please proceed with caution!

For more information, see the Size Warning template page.

Licenses

Licenses can be applied to images using the dropdown when uploading them. All images should have a license.

Images

Image Cropping

Image work can be done for free using online editors such as Photopea, Pixlr, or any other image editor of your choosing.

News Banner Images

News banners should be taken from the notice section in game, cropped so that the slightly lighter 1px tall line on the top of each notice banner isn't included.

Dragon Sprites and Artwork

Dragon sprites and artwork should be trimmed before uploading to remove the large empty space surrounding it. Dragon artwork should be trimmed by default in the game's files, so this shouldn't be necessary, however, if a dragon's artwork does include dead space, it should be trimmed.

Image Names

Image names are formatted in a way that are easy for an editor to grab by just knowing the name of the subject they want to display without having to check the image's page. Image names are formatted depending on the type of image. Anything in brackets is meant to be filled out with the applicable information.

For anything not listed here, file names should be descriptive and include what kind of image it is at the end of the file name (such as Badge if its a badge, Icon if its an icon, Artwork if its artwork, etc). If you have any questions on how a file should be named, ask an administrator.
